A Shakespeare Workshop for Everyone

6 weeks, all experience levels, $0-20

This 6-week workshop is for anybody who wants to enjoy working on Shakespearean text; all levels of experience are invited! By the end of the six week workshop, you will have taken a new piece of Shakespearean text from start to finish, beginning with table work and ending with a standalone performable monologue.

The workshop is facilitated by Ensemble Shakes Artistic Director Brian Elerding, and will feature special guest performers and academics.

Already a Shakesnerd? Excellent! We’ll hone your craft and add some new tools to your toolbox. Never performed Shakespeare in your life? No problem! We’ll work on a broad base of skills you’ll need to get started. The class will meet you wherever you are in your journey with Shakespeare.

The Ensemble’s philosophy about performing Shakespeare is simple: if you can move the audience with your words, you nailed it. Sometimes you’ll know right away how to handle the text, other times you might need to fall back on text analysis and technique, which we’ll help build and solidify over the course of the workshop. Above all, Shakespeare’s words should be engaging, dangerous, exciting, and moving, and we’ll work together to get you there.

Mondays 7:30-9:30pm, August 15th-September 12th at the Lineage Performing Arts Center

Suggested donation: $20–no one turned away for lack of funds.
